An overview of the legal requirements for using health and care data in the development and deployment of data-driven technologies.

This section gives an overview of the legal requirements for using health and care data in the development and deployment of data-driven technologies.

The guidance is primarily aimed at people working in NHS and social care organisations in England, who are developing, deploying, or monitoring data-driven technologies. It set outs the legal requirements broken down by the different stages (development, deployment, and post-deployment). Within the guidance you can find information on when a research approval from the Health Research Authority or Confidentiality Advisory Group support is needed and when to follow guidance issued by the MHRA.

In this section you will also find a glossary (the definitions section) explaining terminology and legal definitions related to health and care data access for research purposes in England. Where a term is highlighted in blue it has been defined in the definitions section. Use your browsers back button to return to the page you were on after reading the definition.
