Service opens to more users

Last updated on 6 Oct 2026

Plan and manage health and care research has reached another important milestone, with more functionality now available and a significant increase in invited users.

The service can now accept modifications to approved REC-only, non-CTIMP studies. This means that invited users can now use the service for more study types.

We've also increased the number of people using the service. We've invited more sponsors, reviewers and operational colleagues as well as representatives from every REC across the UK to start using the service.

By taking this gradual approach, we can test and improve the service with real users as we build it. This growing group of early adopters will provide vital feedback that helps shape the service before it opens more widely.

What's coming next

This work sets the foundations for our next major release, where modifications for studies requiring both REC and study-wide review will be accepted. This will significantly increase the number of studies that can be accepted by the service.

A dedicated team is developing the service to accept new applications for non-CTIMP studies next year.

We've also started preparatory work with colleagues from MHRA and together we are focusing on designing the service for new applications and modifications for CTIMP studies.

What this means for users

For now, Plan and manage health and care research is only available to invited users. If you have not been invited, please continue to use existing systems and processes.

We will continue to share updates as more features become available and more people are invited to use the service.
