If you are a member of the public who is involved in our work, or thinking about getting involved, here you can find more information about what to expect and how we can support you.
Finding out about public involvement activities
We share invitations to get involved in our work through HRA Latest and our public involvement newsletter.
Support we provide for people who get involved in our work:
Guidance on ways of working
In line with the UK Standards for Public Involvement, we aim to work together in a way that values all contributions and builds respectful and productive relationships. If you are involved in our work, you will have a named point of contact. This person will provide the information you need to contribute.
Our HRA Community Ways of Working shares expectations around values and behaviours, and well as practical steps to make sure we look after data and information.
Payment and expenses
We want to remove barriers so anyone can help inform, shape and improve health and social care research. We offer to cover appropriate expenses and provide ‘honorarium’ involvement fees in recognition of people’s time working as advisers with our staff.
Feedback and raising a concern
We want to increase public involvement in how we make decisions. This means working differently and trying new things. At the end of each activity, we will invite you to exchange feedback on your experience of working with us. We welcome all suggestions to help us keep improving.
If you're involved in the work of the HRA and your experience isn't what you expected, or something has gone wrong, please get in touch with your named contact. If you would like to raise a formal concern, we have a procedure for dealing with these.
Learning and development
Your named contact will do their best to provide you with the information you need to work with us.
We recommend the Learning for Involvement website for people wishing to learn more about public involvement in health and social care research.
