  • Research summary

This research will explore the experiences of young people who have taken part in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) as part of a community Child & Adolescent Mental Health team intervention. \n\nThere is a lot of research that shows that DBT can help young people with a variety of different mental health needs, but there has been little research to understand how young people experience this therapeutic approach. \n\nBetween 8 and 14 young people will be interviewed for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour about their experiences of engaging in DBT. All participants will be recruited from community Child & Adolescent Mental Health teams within Stoke-on-Trent when they are nearing the end of their therapeutic intervention. The interviews will be analysed using qualitative methodology which will focus on common themes throughout the young people’s experience. \n\nThe researcher hopes that by asking young people about their experiences, it will provide a more in-depth understanding of how DBT can support young people and support future service planning.
