Data collection arrangements
A wide range of samples are intended to be collected and stored based on the demand from local researchers and support from clinical care teams. These include breast, lymphatic tissue, bloods, genitourinary tissue and tonsil. Tissues will be stored in secure, monitored facilities in various formats, ranging from -80C freezers and liquid nitrogen to room temperature paraffin embedded material.
Data will be collected from hospital information systems (including name, date of birth, diagnosis, treatment, pathology and postcode) and from participant questionnaires (including lifestyle habits, family history and ethnicity). All information will be stored securely on encrypted servers and given out in pseudonymised form.
Consent will be taken by trained medical staff and participants will not undergo any procedures that are not necessary for their clinical care (except on occasions, with specific consent, giving an additional blood sample). Consent will be taken at the most appropriate point in the participants care pathway, as identified by consultation with the relevant clinical team.Research programme
The York Tissue Bank will serve all researchers in the University of York, York Teaching hospitals Trust and their collaborators who have a demand for human tissue and research goals aimed at improving and furthering understanding of healthcare.
