  • Research summary

In view of the difficulty in obtaining sufficient tissue samples this study is restricted to patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFU) who are scheduled already for amputation. Fifteen patients will be recruited into the study over a period of 6 months.

The study aims to identify whether certain markers in the tissue can be used to identify whether a DFU is or will become hard to heal. Tissue samples will be taken from different sites on the amputated limb including the DFU and surrounding healthy skin and used to identify bacteria and chemical markers that are present in non healing wounds.
