Research summary
This is a questionnaire study looking at womens' preferences for a novel device inserted inside the womb to monitor parameters thought to be important in embryo development (oxygen, pH and temperature). This device is not yet available to women and is under development at the University of Southampton in collaboration with a biotech company (Vivoplex Medical Ltd). The questionnaire asks women to imagine that their doctor has given them an option of using the womb sensor device and asks them to choose between sensor devices that are described to them in terms of four features. The features are 'length of time using the device', 'information obtained from the device and its use in guiding treatment ', 'risk of complications' and 'discreteness of the information receiver'. This study is a 'discrete choice experiment' and allows researchers to analyse how women make choices and the trade off between different features of the device.
