  • Research summary

All women are offered tests to see if they are at risk of having a baby who may be affected by an abnormality. If the test indicates an increased risk, then the woman is counselled by doctors or midwives who work in the Fetal Medicine Unit. Women are then offered further tests to confirm the diagnosis. There is little published research in the United Kingdom pertaining to the opinions of women of different ethnic origins who may not speak English having tests for suspected abnormalities in their baby. The aim of this study is to explore these women’s perceptions of having these tests following a high risk result in the initial test for Down’s syndrome
