Research summary
This project aims to develop and evaluate a brief psychological intervention that would meet the psychosocial needs of women recently been diagnosed with premature/primary ovarian insufficiency (POI). In an earlier study into the experience of diagnosis and women’s response to existing service provision (Singer et al., 2011)we found that the vast majority of women with POI were dissatisfied with the information they received, particularly around the time of diagnosis and that over half would have welcomed some form of psychological input and support.
The aim of this study is to see whether psychological input in the form of either themed workshops plus written information or whether (the same) written information alone has a beneficial effect on patients within a year of diagnosis as compared to standard treatment in clinic. This will be done by randomizing participants into three groups and using a set of standard questionnaires to measure the effect.
