  • Research summary

This study is designed to evaluate the benefit to Healthcare Professionals working in the Billericay community nursing team who are already participating in their NHS organisation’s wound assessment training programme of using a range of wound dressings, compression hosiery and compression bandaging from a single manufacturer (BSN medical Ltd, Willerby UK) which is designed to meet the needs of most wound conditions and patients encountered in the community.\nThe use of a range of products from a single manufacturer which are designed to be used in conjunction with each other is expected to make training in appropriate product selection more effective and faster and therefore to reduce the incidence of inappropriate dressing use and reduce cost. \n\nApproximately 24 nurses treating about 160 patients will be taking part in this research study. All the nurses will be trained on the use of BSN range of wound care products at the beginning of the study after having their wound care skills assessed in a short exam.\nThe Belliricay community nursing team will use BSN medical UK Ltd wound care products to treat the wound. The BSN medical UK Ltd products are of the same quality as equivalent products available to the NHS and some of them have already been used by the nursing team.\nThe study duration will be approximately 4 months. Each patient will be treated with the BSN wound care product for a maximum of 12 Weeks. \nWhen all the enrolled patients have completed the full 12 weeks of treatment, the data recorded will be analysed. The skills of the nurses will be assessed again at the end of 12 weeks\n\n
