Research summary
Degenerative disease processes in the spine can lead to hunched or forward flexed posture in a person. This altered alignment in the back and neck can cause pain and decreased physical function. This study aims to improve understanding of the relationship between spinal alignment and walking and balance in people who have degenerative spinal conditions. We will include a cohort of people who are attending group physiotherapy classes to address a degenerative spinal condition. We will measure spinal alignment, walking capacity and pattern, dynamic balance, and back muscle strength along with self-reported measures that reflect the person's functional self-efficacy and general health.
