  • Research summary

This research is about investigating the therapeutic experiences of staff and service users involved in or attending task-based group activities within occupational therapy environments. It will focus on occupational therapy environments such as the art room, the garden or ceramics or jewellery-making.
As part of the research we hope to begin to identify and form a theory about the therapeutic benefits of these task-based groups and identify the effect they have on participants.
Participants will be adult (age 18-65) men and women who are inpatients and who attend occupational therapy groups and also relevant staff. Relevant staff are those who are normally involved in running these task-based groups or occupational therapists referring their patients to the groups.
Participants may be asked to take part in focus groups and individual interviews as well as completion of questionnaires.
