  • Research summary

The study aims to explore patients’ understanding of the nurse practitioner (NP) role in providing consultations for minor illness clinics in primary care and to consider how understanding impacts on patients’ confidence to attend. Within my own area of practice many patients are not used to seeing nurses for first contact care during periods of illness and some raise concerns and anxieties about being seen in nurse-led clinics without the involvement of the GP.Improved understanding of the nurse practitioner’s role, level of training and responsibilities could reduce patient uncertainties when attending nurse led minor illness clinics.
