  • Research summary

This project is a qualitative study which aims to interview up to 8 women through telephone interview in order to ask pregnant women their views around health and wellbeing in pregnancy. Antenatal Clinic manager (QMC) Julie Brown has given permission for the Caroline Estrella to recruit women during their attended scan appointments at the Antenatal Clinic within Queen's Medical Centre. Midwives will act as gatekeepers to ensure women introduced to the study meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria. They will hand information leaflets to women who show interest and will introduce these women to Caroline Estrella (CE) who will be present in the waiting area to explain the study further.
If women wish to proceed after this discussion then preliminary written consent will be taken by CE to contact women by telephone at a date and time chosen by them. Women will also be given contact details of the research team in case they change their mind and do not wish to be contacted. Women will be informed prior to giving consent that calls will be recorded and take no longer than one hour.
CE will telephone women who have consented at the times they selected, via a 'hands free' method in a confidential area, a closed room in the University of Nottingham School of Health Sciences. Calls will be audio recorded and anonymised during transcription. If women do not answer on first attempt one further attempt will be made only as failure to answer will be taken as a withdrawal from the study. Upon answering the telephone verbal consent will be taken and recorded.
Data will be securely stored and locked in the CI office. Findings will be analysed and written up as part of CE's MA in Research Methods award. Publication may occur in a Nursing Journal but this is not definite.
