Research summary
Most people with skin problems are first seen by a doctor or nurse at their local GP practice. These healthcare workers need to know how to spot serious skin problems, like skin cancer, and decide what care is needed.
The' IMPACT' Education Programme is a short training course for healthcare workers. It helps them make better decisions, explain health problems clearly, and work with patients to choose the best care. This supports the NHS goal of giving more care closer to people's homes.
In this study, we will find out if the training makes a difference. We will compare GP practices that took part in the training with those that did not. We will look at whether patients are sent to skin specialists when they need to be, whether medicines are used in the right way, and whether healthcare workers change how they care for patients. We will also ask patients what they thought about their appointment.
The results will show if this training helps patients get the right care at the right time. If it works well, the programme could be used in more NHS areas to improve care for people with skin problems.REC name
