Data collection arrangements
The population base consists of those adult patients who have had a cardiac MRI scan in our centre from 1995 onwards, and all future patients attending for Cardiac MRI scans. Patients with congenital as well as acquired heart disease will be included.
Data already held on our hospital clinical CMR database are names, hospital ID, dates of birth, dates of scan(s) and the type of heart condition. The MRI images of these patients are stored electronically on a separate server.
We wish to obtain further data from medical records, held in both paper and electronic formats, to investigate long-term outcomes in terms of morbidity and mortality. Data on the new West Yorkshire CMR Research Database will be anonymised and linked to the clinical hospital records through a unique identifier. No particularly sensitive data will be stored.
Data items to be stored on the Research Database are:
Unique identifier, year of birth, gender, type of condition, dates of scans, treatment received including surgery, other investigations carried out (e.g. angiography), major adverse cardiovascular events (MI, stroke, death), date of death if applicable.Research programme
The Research Database supports the local and regional community of cardiology patients with congenital or acquired heart disease, and aims to contribute to an increased understanding of disease progression, and efficacy of investigations and interventions.
