Data collection arrangements
Data stored in the Safe Haven includes:
- Routine Electronic Health Record data imported from local healthcare information systems across the Health Board, principally from secondary care
- Patient-identifiable health systems activity data, largely as audit data sourced from Glasgow systems, sent to Public Health Scotland, and then returned to the Health Board for reporting purposes
- Imaging data from standard care, including X-rays, CT scans, and other imaging types
- Consented trial datasets, with suitable ethical permissions, imported to the Safe Haven for linkage to other Electronic Health Record data
- Free text clinical notes, letters and other unstructured sources, derived from hospital systems
- Some genetic marker and sequencing data for patients, typically generated as part of standard diagnostic pathwaysResearch programme
The attached Ethics Report for 2021-22 indicates the range of researchers supported by Safe Haven data linkages, and includes: - Primary academic research, such as retrospective statistical studies - Clinical research to change and improve local standard care pathways - Collaborative research with other public bodies, such as Local Authorities - Commercial clinical trial activity in the R&I Department at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde - West of Scotland Innovation Hub activities, testing novel clinical change programmes within local Health Boards - Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence development, to risk stratify clinical populations, design predictive algorithms, and to improve clinical decision support
