The main aim is to provide the infrastructure to underpin and streamline the process of research tissue acquisition and availability for the research community (this includes researchers in academia, research charities and "commercial" biotech industry). It is now internationally recognised that a key resource in translational and clinical research is a bio repository network, which facilitates the discovery of disease mechanisms and treatments. The NHSGGC Biorepository operates under the auspices of the Scottish Academic Health Sciences Collaboration (SAHSC) with monies administered by the NHS R&D offices. The purpose of the SAHSC is developing the national research infrastructure to facilitate medical research and innovation and increase Scottish research competitiveness within the UK and globally.
