Research summary
This mixed methods study seeks to investigate the impact of the Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) mental wellbeing education programme on mental health self-management and crisis avoidance capacity among a population who have received mental health crisis support services in Doncaster in the period from April 2011 to March 2013.
Although WRAP is gaining an evidence base in general mental health service applications, mixed methods research integrating context-specific quantitative and qualitative data has not been attempted. This study seeks to quantify the impact of WRAP in a crisis context, and to ascertain, describe and analyse how people use it for self-management and crisis prevention and avoidance.
The findings of this study will be used to inform future development of crisis care provision within adult mental health services provided by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH). Findings may also be transferable to other similar NHS crisis service settings. It is hoped that wider publication may also inform the use of WRAP elsewhere.REC name
