Research summary
In the VITAL II we studied the implementation of an integrated monitoring system (Intellivue Guardian Solution, Philips). We are able to show reductions in serious events, cardiac arrests and severity of illness and mortality of patients admitted to the ICU. During the analysis of the study we noted the significant differences in recording of respiratory rates with a wireless sensor if compared to traditional manual recordings.
In VITAL III we would like to test whether monitoring with wireless respiratory sensors has the potential to improve recordings of vital signs and the implications for workflow, workload and patient related outcomes. Additionally we would like to attempt and generate better decision rules for clinicians to determine whether patients are deteriorating or are physiologically stable.REC name
