Research summary
Carpal tunnel surgery is often performed in patients awake and necessitates an injection of local anaesthetic in the wrist prior to surgical incision. Patient often report this injection to be painful. We wish to evaluate the application of a medical vibration device (VibraJect) which was originally designed to reduce pain from dental injections within the carpal tunnel setting. We plan to research this in 20 NHS patient participants. The participants will be recruited and blinded from whether they have the Vibraject turned on or off and will be asked to rate their pain and satisfaction during the injection of local anaesthetic. The operator of the injection will also be asked to rate their satisfaction of using this new device.
