Research summary
We aim to explore whether there is a link between baseline vitamin D levels and changes in heart function in the six months following a heart attack.
These changes, known as remodelling, are initially beneficial in helping the heart adapt and recover from the heart attack, but when unchecked become unhelpful, leading to heart dilation and eventually to heart failure. One previous study in the UK has described that vitamin D levels predict outcomes (major cardiac adverse events) following myocardial infarction. We want to see whether the vitamin D deficiency is related to changes in heart function following the heart attack and whether this relates to the worse outcomes (higher hospitalisation and mortality.REC name
