Research summary
The research project is being completed as part of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course. The project aims to explore the views and needs of parents and carers of children and adolescents who access a mental health inpatient service. The research will be qualitative in nature to gain deeper insights into parental perspectives. The existing research base highlights a gap in qualitative research exploring this area, so it is hoped that the proposed research will help to fill this gap.
The study will recruit parents and carers of young people who have been admitted into a mental health inpatient unit. Parents and carers will be approached if they have attended the parent and carer support group held by the service on at least one occasion. Their experiences of this group will also be investigated. Parents will be recruited into the study if their child has been discharged from the service for at least one month up until one year. After reading the necessary participant information sheet and agreeing to provide informed consent, participants will take part in a semi-structured interview lasting between 60 and 90 minutes.REC name
