Research summary
In Scotland, many people die in hospitals with illnesses that shorten life. We would like to improve the care people receive at the end of life and find out the best ways of improving care. We would like to improve how we talk to people and find out the best way of people telling us about their care. We will approach friends or relatives about the care the person who matters to them has received in the hospital during his/her last days of life. We know their views are important. We want to know what is good and what is bad about their care. We will ask health care staff about their experience. The information will be gathered in different stages using different ways. This will help us test what is the best way to get feedback from patients. We will also test to see if we can respond to this feedback while the patient is still in hospital to help them receive the best possible care.
