  • Research summary

This study aims to investigate the views and attitudes of Indian people towards blood donation.
Indian people represent 2.5% of the population of England and Wales, and yet only contribute 0.74% of total blood donated. This research aims to find out why such a low blood donation rate exists, especially in light of recent studies which predict major shortfalls in blood supply compared to blood demand in the near future due to the ageing population.
Face-to-face interviews relating to this topic will be carried out with 12-15 people over the age of 18 who identify themselves as Indian. Interviews will last roughly 30 minutes. Participants will be recruited through a General Practice in North London, and interviews will be carried out there as well. This study will be completed in May 2015.
