  • Research summary

We have designed a study using questionnaires to understand whether using a video animation enhances understanding of clinical trial information. Participants will receive either a standard Participant Information Sheet or the standard information sheet plus a video animation of a mock study. The mock study involves investigating whether CT coronary angiography can guide care of patients admitted to hospital with a type of heart attack known as a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction.
    Our study aims to:
    1. Understand whether patients admitted to hospital with a heart attack would be interested in taking part in a study using CT scanning of the coronary artery blood vessels supplying the heart to improve their care. This is part of patient involvement in the design of a clinical trial.
    2. Understand whether use of the video animation explaining the trial helps patient understanding of what the study is trying to do and what is involved in terms of study procedures for participants.
The results of this study will help design a much larger clinical trial using CT coronary angiography to improve the care pathway for patients admitted to hospital for investigation of a heart attack.
