Research summary
This project aims to assess the use of vibrational spectroscopy as a clinical tool for the diagnosis of lymphomas and metastatic lesions found in lymph nodes. Currently diagnosis relies on histopatological analysis which can be a subjective, time-consuming and invasive technique. Diseased cells experience changes to their biochemical composition, which can be detected by vibrational spectroscopy. The tissue used in the investigation will be from lymph nodes from patients where a head and neck lymph node biopsy is already required. Tissue biopsies will be carried out at Gloucester Royal Hospital. Overall, the study will last three years.
