Research summary
Current health funding demands fast effective and consistent outcomes from psychotherapy , but the impact of client criteria, outside of symptom severity and diagnosis on the type of treatment that would be most effective has often been overlooked (National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health UK, 2011).
This Study aims to validate a recently published client suitability scale for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy(CBT), the CBT-SUITS scale(McLellan, Peters & Rapee, 2016). Our aim is to investigate whether this 13 question pre-treatment self report questionnaire scale will be effective in identifying whether an individual is likely to benefit from 1:1 CBT. The questionnaire will be administered pre therapy to consenting clients of an NHS Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service (IAPT) who are attending for 1:1 CBT for Depressive and Anxiety Disorders. This will be analysed alongside existing pre/post data collection measures (PHQ-9 and GAD-7) that are regularly collected from all clients attending the service to investigate relationships between CBT-SUITS scores and changes in symptom severity.REC name
