Research summary
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system which can include a range of physical and cognitive symptoms. It is important to assess cognitive functioning effectively in MS, because of its negative impact on quality of life over and above those physical symptoms. Technological advances in cognitive testing offer promise to further refine the process of assessment of cognitive function compared to lengthy and costly conventional paper and pencil means in busy clinics. The Brief International Cognitive Assessment in MS (BICAMS) takes only 15 minutes to complete and is used worldwide. It measures information processing speed and verbal and visual memory, the most prevalent cognitive deficits in MS. An IPAD version of the BICAMS is under development and needs validation. The aim of the project is to validate the IPAD version against conventional paper administration.
