  • Research summary

PROMOTE GLASS is a prospective observational research project aimed at testing the accuracy of the Global Anatomical Staging System (GLASS) score in predicting the success of Endovascular Therapy (EVT) in patients with Chronic Limb Threatening Ischemia (CLTI).
After the vascular multi-disciplinary team (MDT) weekly meeting, or for emergent cases where treatment cannot wait for the MDT discussion, the responsible surgeon and research team will identify the eligible candidates. All patients meeting the eligibility criteria will be approached for inclusion.
Participants will be recruited only after the decision of the MDT meeting favours an endovascular procedure over open bypass according to the current standards of care in the UK and Europe. During the operation, details about the operation will be recorded including the use of balloon with or without metal stent and what and how many stents and other equipment is used and what arteries involved in the treatment. Post operatively, as a standard of care, patients will have an outpatient clinic appointment at 4-12 weeks and 1 year after the procedure to assess the condition of the leg involved and the patient overall health. At the time of the operation and at postoperative clinic appointments patients will be assessed clinically and radiologically using duplex ultrasound by the treating team, data will be recorded to allow the research team to look at if there are any differences seen between patient groups in this study according to their disease pattern.
