  • Data collection arrangements

The data stored on the CORE-IMS database is from the three part outcome measure (see attached) offered to every patient in assessment. When the patient goes into treatment the client outcome measure is repeated at four monthly intervals and at 6, 12 (and potentially 24) months so this is also on the data base. Data is collected in the Service waiting room via electronic devices and paper, as well as by post on paper. The two therapist measures are done electronically by individual therapists, prompted by the research assistant at the assessment and end of therapy.

  • Research programme

This database supports patient outcomes similarly to NIHR’s Research for Patient Benefit. Helping to improve availability of appropriate relationship based therapies to people with mental health problems served by SPS and BSMHFT. The Specialist Psychotherapy Service is supported by analysis of data on its effectiveness. This gives feedback to clinicians and therapeutic programmes. The database can contribute to the wider knowledge and research base on the effectiveness of formal psychodynamic psychotherapy and real life NHS treatments. Furthermore, it supports the BSMHFT’s research agenda as well as supporting the research training of clinical psychologists and trainees in the region.
