Research summary
This study aims to explore the decision making process of patients electing to have neurosurgical clipping surgery to treat an unruptured cerebral aneurysm. There is little research into these decision making processes. Furthermore, few decision support tools are grounded in theory. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with approximately 10 participants who will be recruited from a list of those who have had the above surgery in the past three years. Verbatim transcripts will be analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings will be used to inform the development of a tool which could support people when making decisions about surgery.
