  • Research summary

Information about medicines can be found through a range of sources, such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, friends and family, patient information leaflets (PIL), other written leaflets, and social media. In compliance with UK law, all medicines must provide a patient information leaflet (PIL) within the medication package. There are guidelines on what should be included, but the content and how this information is provided may differ between manufacturers.

This qualitative research study seeks to explore patient views of current methods of communicating medicines information. The research is important because existing research suggests that patients feel that they do not have adequate information about their medication. The findings from this research will underpin future work to develop better methods of communicating the benefits and harms of treatment in a single source of information.
