Research summary
The aim of this application is to establish a resource that will allow laboratory methods to be developed which can be used in projects investigating disease processes.
A maximum number of 60 University of Bristol employees will be recruited and invited to donate a urine sample that will be kept for an indefinite amount of time. Samples will be taken in clinic facilities in Oakfield House, University of Bristol and the Bristol Bioresource laboratory will process, store and use the samples.
The urine samples will be used to develop laboratory methods to measure metabolites in urine. Metabolomics is the study of the products and intermediates of metabolism - the breakdown of food, the creation of material needed for the body and the elimination of waste. These molecules are collectively known as metabolites. Changes in the levels of these metabolites can indicate disease progression.
In the future the urine samples may also be used to test methodology to measure other biomarkers in urine.REC name
