  • Research summary

This study will aim to identify the incidence of different respiratory viruses in a population of patients admitted to hospital with suspected respiratory viral infections to determine different factors which may affect how disease progresses as well as recovery time and length of stay. Secondary to this, the study aims to understand time to recovery for different viruses as well as patient cost estimate. The 12-month recruitment period will mean the study will run through parts of two consecutive winter periods in order to capture the greatest number of patients affected by respiratory viruses.

The study will follow patients post-discharge through the completion of questionnaires at regular time intervals, at 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months.
