Research summary
The research aims to understand the priorities and preferences for hospital-based psychosocial interventions for patients with alcohol dependence who have been treated in hospital. This is an interview study of approximately 30 people including patients with alcohol dependence, and peer mentors and staff within community and hospital alcohol services. To ensure a wide range of participant experiences, individuals will be recruited from a number of sources. The research aims to understand the needs of people who may be delivering and receiving psychosocial interventions for alcohol dependence in an acute hospital. Individuals who agree to participate in the research study will be interviewed for approximately 60 minutes using a semi-structured interview, with the opportunity to discuss further topics of interest to them.
Additionally, a documentary analysis of documents used by peer mentors and /or staff will be conducted to facilitate the identification of resources currently used when supporting patients with alcohol dependence. The study will support future research to adapt existing psychosocial interventions.
