  • Research summary

This is a prospective, observational, multicentre research study of patients who have been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) in the last 12 months. The study is taking place in approximately 39 countries globally with 1800 patients to be recruited.
Approximately 50 patients will be recruited in the UK across 5 secondary/tertiary care gastroenterology services. The patients will actively take part in the research, via completion of 5 short questionnaires at the time they are recruited into the study and then every 6 months over 2 years, during routine follow-up visits. In addition, the clinical care team will collect information on demographics and background, disease-related data, clinical characteristics, resource use and work productivity and activity impairment for each patient.
The overall aim of the study is to increase the understanding of the disease burden of UC. We hope that the information can be used in the future to help people with UC to be treated in the most appropriate way. Also the study will, we hope, help doctors and nurses to understand the impact UC has on a patient’s sense of wellbeing.
All data will be provided in a pseudonymised form to researchers for data management, analysis and reporting. Analyses will be both descriptive and comparative in nature.
