  • Research summary

Treatment Escalation Plans are being rolled out across North Wales. They are a way to identify a range of treatments that may or may not be suitable in the event of future deterioration and are aimed at patients with approximately 6-12 months left to live with a life limiting diagnosis. The researcher (MSc student) is interested to know more about the experience of having this type of discussion.
The overall aim of the study is to gain a better understanding of the health care professional’s overall ‘lived’ experience, including the emotional impact, of having a Treatment Escalation Plan discussion with patients and their family members towards the end of life and identify common themes that may help develop future education and training for this type of discussion.
