Research summary
Multiple studies have shown that the formation of cancers in adults requires the accumulation of mutations over many years. The long time scale has raised important questions in regard to cancer prevention and early intervention. In parallel, the development of tissue sampling protocols, in conjunction with new sequencing approaches has allowed researchers to study the genetic consequences of ageing and other benign diseases.
Across the plethora of adult urological disease, there is often a close relationship between benign disease, ageing, and cancer development. For instance, kidney cancer is associated with age and renal dysfunction, whereas prostate cancer is closely associated with ageing.
This study aims to investigate the relationship between ageing, the development of non-cancerous conditions, and the development of cancer across urological disease.
