Research summary
The research intends to consider forensic psychiatric patients knowledge and perceptions about NPS's. In addition, any lived experiences of patients will be discussed, if they arise. Patient discourse will be interpreted to identify if there is any relationship between NPS, mental health difficulties and offending behaviour, and how this may impact on recovery and treatment programs.
The project will undertake a selection of qualitative interviews in up to 6 NHS, low and medium secure forensic psychiatric units in Kent and London.
Patients will be asked to complete a confidential demographics sheet and engage in a one to one semi-structured interview with the researcher. Topics explored will be
perceptions of individual and cohort descent into NPS dissipation, mental health difficulties, suicidal intent, insouciant criminal behaviour, abuse, exploitation, manipulation, dependency, economic insecurity and homelessness, these will be considered when patients were under the influence of NPS.REC name
