Research summary
Frailty and undernutrition are both widespread problems among older adults that may increase their risk of adverse health outcomes. This study aims to identify the extent of the problem at the hospital-community interface and to detect whether the emergency department setting can be used to identify frail patients who are at risk of undernutrition. The study hopes to begin to identify the type of dietetic interventions that might be employed to prevent and treat undernutrition by looking at current food intakes on the unit.
