Research summary
This ethnographic study of pressure ulcer (PU) prevention and management in a hospital and local community will investigate how a focus on the role of time is essential to the study of care in the context of the NHS and an ageing population.
I will draw on contemporary theoretical debates about care to examine how practices of PU prevention and management in a London hospital and the local community can be strengthened despite pressures on resources. I will focus on the key pressures over time, how they are addressed, who does the care, and how the focus on time and care may inform PU prevention in the future.
By examining current practice, I will uncover practical and realistic ways to promote and maintain good care even when resources are limited.
