Research summary
The Cleft Collective Birth Cohort provides a large set of cleft data. Research into surgical interventions often rely on small datasets or are geographically restricted to single cleft centres and tri-centres. The Cleft Collective obtain surgical intervention data nationally from primary surgeries of study children within the birth cohort. This sample provides us with the opportunity to describe surgical practice across the UK.
The work outlined in this proposal will form the start of a body of work looking into the effectiveness of cleft surgery in the UK. This initial piece of work will look at current trends of cleft operations and will analyse the effectiveness of the surgical form as a data-collecting tool.
