Research summary
This study will be a survey of the incidence of ophthalmic manifestations of Behcet's Disease using prospective case ascertainment through the British Ophthalmological Surveillance Unit (BOSU) monthly reporting card scheme. This is an active surveillance system involving all UK consultant ophthalmologists. This is an epidemiological study using only information available from the patient case notes. Ophthalmologists will indicate that they have seen a new case through the BOSU. The BOSU collects minimal patient identifying information but will notify the study investigator (Mr Petrushkin) of all new cases who will contact the reporting ophthalmologist directly.
The study aims to collect the following information:
1. To describe the annual incidence of ophthalmic manifestations of Behçet’s disease.
2. To describe the demographic characteristics of patients with ophthalmic manifestations of Behçet’s Disease.
3. To describe the frequency of ophthalmic manifestations of Behçet’s disease.
4. To determine the most common first line management strategies.
5. To establish the incidence of ‘isolated ocular Behcet’s Disease’REC name
