Research summary
An ischaemic stroke is caused by an occlusion of a brain artery (clot), which leads to a reduction in blood flow and ultimately cell death. Eligibility for treatment (clot busting medication and/or mechanical recanalisation) depends on the extent of ischaemic damage on CT scans. Detection of early ischaemic damage on CT scans is challenging, especially for the untrained eye.
The CE marked e-ASPECTS software has been developed to point out suspect stroke areas in the brain to the physician. It applies the clinically validated Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) method and has been extensively evaluated.
The objective of this study is to assess in how far e-ASPECTS helps clinicians ( confidence level, time) when they use it alongside their routine interpretation. No patient data will be collected. All patients will receive standard nursing and medical management.REC name
