Research summary
MPTLT had been in routine UK clinical use from 2017-21, when NICE reviewed the treatment. The NICE review (IPG692) found the treatment to be safe but that there was insufficient high-quality evidence of efficacy, so recommended that the treatment should only be performed in the context of research. This study is designed to provide the required quality evidence of treatment efficacy. We intend to prospectively study the results of MPTLT procedures to capture details of procedure and outcomes. We will set up a data monitoring centre within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, staffed by a full time database / research coordinator and with consultant oversight. IPG692 is due for review in April 2024, so we intend to run the registry until that time, and potentially beyond (if deemed to be beneficial to the patients after the 3 years analysis)
