Research summary
Mixed methods study split into two parts using questionnaires and interviews with children/ young people aged 8-17 and their parents. In part 1 of the study, the parents and their children will complete a number of questionnaires to measure the number of self-management tasks completed and the level of parental involvement as well as self-efficacy to carry out these behaviours. Participant's HbA1c levels will be analysed against scores from the questionnaires to determine whether there is a relationship between parental involvement, self-efficacy and diabetes control. All participants involved in part 1 will be given the opportunity to be contacted to take part in part 2 of the study. In part 2, semi structured interviews will be conducted on a small group to determine themes associated as facilitators and barriers to self-care behaviours.
Aim: To determine whether self-efficacy impacts the number of diabetes self-management behaviours one conducts. To determine whether there is a relationship between parental involvement, self-efficacy and diabetes control. To derive themes associated with self-management of type 1 diabetes.REC name
