Research summary
Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) cancer patients experience high rates of psychological issues and concerns associated with their diagnoses (Holland et al., 2013, National Institute for Health
and Care Excellence, 2004). Currently, the best method of assessing and supporting patients and their psychological well-being is not known (National Institute for
Health and Care Excellence, 2005). Our project aims to evaluate the way in which patients who experience these issues are able to access psychological support services and their opinions of how their concerns are addressed by the service provided in Leeds, with the aim of highlighting possible areas for improvement. We will collect the data through a single focus group, in which all interactions between researcher, participants, facilitators and other participants will be audio taped. These audio tape recordings will then be transferred to a secure server and analysed using thematic analysis. The study aims to use this qualitative data to improve access to the current pathway and potentially highlight areas of improvement.REC name
