Research summary
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a fast-evolving area of medicine. For AI to be successfully embedded and implemented into routine clinical practice, it is vital that both healthcare workers and patients understand and trust the technology.
The aim of the TRUsT study (Trust in Results USing Technology) is to understand healthcare workers’ and patients’ opinions of AI technology and its introduction into maternity care. We will conduct semi-structured interviews in four diverse locations (Canada, Kenya, Rwanda and the U.K.) where we will explore perceptions and understanding of AI including acceptability and ‘explainability’. Using these results, we will develop a framework that can be used when introducing AI into healthcare settings.
