  • Research summary

Incorporating an evidence-based treatment pathway that centres on active self-management and peer support should help improve insomnia symptoms and sleep quality in prisoner-patients. The subsequent consequences of good sleep health will also improve prisoner’s overall mental and physical health, reduce self-harm and suicidality and positively impact upon staff, patients and prison environment. The early detection of sleep problems should save unnecessary prescriptions, and help reduce medication trading, misuse and diversion.
